In October of 2006, a group of 7 people from First Lutheran Church
went on a two-week mission trip to
Arusha, Tanzania and surrounding area. The trip was a rewarding experience for all of us who went. This is a picture of the group standing in front of the new Arusha Lutheran Medical center, which is still under construction. |

The mission of the trip was to learn more about the Selian Lutheran
Hospital and other mission
projects in Tanzania, supported by people in the United States. We
also went there to meet and learn more about the people
living in the Arusha area. After coming back from the trip, we have been able to witness to our home congregations, family, and friends about what we saw and why these people need our financial support. We hope to be able to generate more interest and support for these mission projects in Tanzania as well as support for future groups to go to Tanzania. This is a picture of Dr. Mark Jacobson, director of Selian Lutheran Hospital, talking with one of the group members about services provided by Selian. |

We were able to experience many things during our two weeks in
Tanzania. While visiting the Selian Hospital,
we got to go to a nearby village to see how the hospital has helped
the village to get a better source
of drinking water to the people there. On another day, we got to go
out into surrounding villages with
the hospice team from Selian and see how HIV and AIDS have affected
people's lives in Africa.
While in Tanzania, we also were able to visit two secondary schools, where much of their financial support comes from people in the United States. We also visited two projects supported by Heifer International. All the people there were very friendly, and it was not hard to see God working to help the people. |
